My mother once told me that when I was a baby people would stop - TopicsExpress

My mother once told me that when I was a baby people would stop and look and comment how beautiful I was, but asked even more so who my actual mother was, confusing her for a house worker or maid because she had dark hair, brown eyes and looked Hispanic, and I had bright blue eyes, blond hair and looked white. The funny thing was that most people would go out of there way to not hold the door open for my mother or make her feel out of place because she was strolling around the city with a white baby, who just for the sake of arguing had more Chilean blood than Irish, Scottish, British or the teeny bit of German blood inherited from his father. To my mothers recollection, there was only one woman who stopped and instead of asking whether I was actually my mothers son asked, shall I hold the door for you? on entering a department store. My mother says it with a more upright and proper actors tone. But it was Phylicia Rashad, according to old folklore who held the door open that day for me and my mother, and because of it I grew up forever with a respect knowing the actress did that. I was of course not surprised when she came to the defense of Bill Cosby--whose defense and day in court we may never see (if the accusations are true)--but whose life Rashad had been a part of ever since their first meeting on the set of The Cosby Show. Her latest comments in an interview with ABC (below) set off a firestorm. Let me know what you think of Rashads defense and whether you agree or disagree with her below:
