My name is Bria Lundy. I am an educator and the 2014-15 President of the Student Council for Exceptional Children at Florida International University. Autism became a personal matter for me 3 years ago when I approached my niece parents with my concerns. I knew that my niece was on the Spectrum and it wasnt until that moment that everything Id ever studied in Special Education became infused with deeper meaning. It was challenging for her parents to receive. However, after a few doctor visits, my niece Yamila was diagnosed with autism. Our family has received autism as a gift. Yamila is (A)mazing (U)nique (T)ime-efficient (I)nnocent (S)imple (T)icklish (C)hoosy. Yamila has become my daily motivation to improve the lives and education of children with exceptionalities.
