My name is Clare Spano, I work for Upower, which is a non-profit organization bringing CrossFit classes to teens in Seattle! We are trying to recruit some Roosevelt High School students to come participate in our program. As the members of this Boosters club, we thought you all may be able to help us. A brief background on Upower – Upower was founded in late 2013 as a way to empower teens through physical achievement. The first classes started in February and March of 2014. We ran classes at five different locations in the spring and then three in the summer. This fall we are in eight locations, including Northwest CrossFit, a short walk from RHS. Our classes are running Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:00. We want to emphasize that Upower is absolutely no cost to the students. Upower is a non-profit organization aimed at bringing fitness activities to high school teens in underserved communities — at no cost to them. We offer an encouraging after school environment for teens in order to improve their physical fitness. Classes include warm-ups, stretching, a workout of the day, and games. Upower is a great way to get in shape, meet new friends, and have something fun to do after school, all for free! You can learn more about Upower and how our classes have impacted students in the Seattle area by looking at our YouTube Channel, youtube/user/upowerorg, or checking out our website, u-power.org. If you are interested in learning more about Upower, we would love to hear from you! We really think it is a great opportunity that teens can benefit from. I can be reached at (206) 802-4354 or [email protected].
