My name is Joshua McGee and I am a 22 year old college student. Things that I would like for people to know are that epilepsy is not a disease. Its a condition that should be taken very seriously, but people shouldnt be afraid of you because you have it. Epilepsy will instill a fear in a person that cant be explained. You live your life always expecting the worst, and knowing at anytime that you could have a seizure that could kill you. After a tough four years, I have been blessed to have a year (as of July 3) of no seizures because of my surgeries (right temporal lobectomy, surgery with the in-head EEG for a week, and a surgery for a benign tumor at Duke). Not everybody has the option of being cured with medicine, and its important for people to know this. While epilepsy is an ongoing process, its very important to not give up. Awareness is a major component in battling this awful illness. Its important that people know how to act when a seizure occurs.
