My name is Kevin Elwood and I am running as a candidate for Municipal Council in Ward 2, Clearview Township. I would be honoured to be the Representative for Ward 2, for the next 4 year term, if elected on 27 October 2014. My wife, Gail, and I live and work in Ward 2, on our farm on County Rd 91, just west of Stayner, which we bought in 1996. We have had the very great pleasure of raising our two sons here in beautiful Clearview Township. Mason and Luke attended Duntroon Public School, then Stayner Collegiate Institute through to their graduations. They are now making their way in the world, studying Resource Management and Landscape Architecture at their respective universities in Ontario. Here on our farm, we established “Clearview Nursery”, growing and supplying nursery stock and planting services to the Georgian Triangle, realizing my dream to own and operate a tree nursery, since graduating from Sir Sanford Fleming’s Forestry programme. I am also a commercial pilot working from our local Collingwood Regional Airport. Seeing both of my passions become a reality in Clearview, I believe we have a truly unique and valuable area and I wish to join the Municipal team and work hard to preserve its successes and present opportunities in the future. Working outdoors for a living, I appreciate the beauty and heritage of our Township. As a family we enjoy all the benefits that Clearview has to offer from hiking, biking, gardening, hunting, skiing and snowmobiling, as well as the beautiful landscapes, Niagara Escarpment, Nottawasaga Bay and natural heritage that surrounds us through all the seasons of the year. I was born and raised in rural Ontario, in Terra Cotta, 3rd Generation. I understand rural living and I see Ward 2, Clearview Township, as a shining example of a combination of managed growth, fiscal responsibility and the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage. I recognise the responsibilities of Clearview Township, and respect the process of Council. I am up to date on the issues and hard work facing our sitting council, and the future successful candidates, including Economic Growth, Industrial Growth and pressures on Rural Landscapes. I have worked well with our Township Staff and can foresee very good working relationships ahead. Through my business and personal involvement on current issues, I have already established positive relationships with our surrounding municipal Councils of Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Grey Highlands, as well as our Provincial MPP, Jim Wilson and our Federal MP, Kellie Leitch. With my passion for our Township and my background of working with people, I feel I will be a strong representative for the residents of Ward 2. Because of this, and for all the reasons cited here, I made the decision to run for Councillor for Ward 2, Clearview Township, and I ask for your support on Election Day.
