My wife, Candy, and I have five children, including two sons currently serving in the military (one active US Navy, one US Army guardsman), and two grandchildren. As a 17 year old high school senior I enlisted in the Air Force and served in the midst of the Iranian hostage crisis. I worked my way up from the enlisted ranks to full colonel and retired from active duty in 2011, ending my military service of more than 32 years. During my military service, I led numerous combat operations; two of which were as a bomber squadron commander in operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. As a Joint Chiefs of Staff Operations Officer I was on duty in the National Military Command Center located within the Pentagon during the September 11, 2001 attacks. In the ensuing months, I assisted the United States national security team in creating, synchronizing, and executing the campaign plan for the global war on terrorism. My wife and I currently own a 225-acre farm, operated as part of a third-generation family farm operation. Like most Louisianans, I believe in the traditional American values of individual liberty, hard work, personal responsibility, and faith in God and family. And Candy and I do our best to instill these values in our children. But Candy and I dont just teach our children traditional values -- we also do our best to lead by example. Thats why -- whether it’s as a founding Board Member at New Orleans Patriots, a veteran’s advocacy group committed to preventing veteran suicides and ensuring military families have equal access to benefits or as the President of our local chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America -- I enjoy spending my time helping others. Of course, deciding to run for U.S. Senate wasnt the easiest decision Ive ever made. Ive never held -- nor run -- for political office before. But with the madness coming out of Washington these days, quite frankly, Im concerned for my childrens and my grandchildren’s future. That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate. You see, its no secret that the biggest electoral success the Republican Party has tasted in recent years was the 2010 election powered by the Tea Party wave. In fact, if Republicans can just gain the same six Senate seats in 2014 that we gained in 2010, Harry Reid will be toppled as Majority Leader. And as the pro-life, anti-amnesty, grassroots conservative in this race, I represent our partys best chance to fire Mary Landrieu. The big government establishment knows Im not one of their guys” and they are pulling out all the stops to defeat me. Im sure you understand the stakes, should they succeed. Our national debt is nearly $17 TRILLION. Unemployment is still sky-high. The ObamaCare train wreck is now upon us as hundreds of thousands of Louisianans have received premium increases or policy cancellations. Our U.S. Constitution is held in utter disregard by EVERY branch of government in Washington, D.C. The truth is, if you and I dont turn things around -- IMMEDIATELY -- our children and grandchildren may never know the freedoms intended for them by the Founding Fathers. Thats why Im in this race and pledge to fight for our conservative values, such as: *** Voting to defund and repeal ObamaCare. I understand the destruction this socialized medicine scheme will have on our economy and how it destroys our liberty; *** Always voting for a balanced budget. I will never vote for unbalanced budgets or to pile debt on the heads of our children by raising the debt ceiling; *** Securing our Borders. The most important function of the federal government is to defend our nation. And that includes securing our borders; *** Protecting our Second Amendment Freedoms. The Second Amendment is clear -- the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed. I will lead the fight to protect our God-given right to keep and bear arms, and will work to fully restore the gun rights of law-abiding Americans.
