My name is Theodore and had my heart broken for the first time in my life. I was living a normal doggy life, with plenty of good food, fresh water, two human parents who took care of me. But one day I was out minding my own business, barking at squirrels and chasing bugs when I felt one of the most horrible pains Id ever felt. It felt like a burning fire that started at my shoulder and went all the way to my insides. I had been shot by someone and I was losing blood quickly. My parents took me to the vet when they saw the blood and kept me calm while we waited for the doctor to examine me. It turns out, the bullet never exited my body and possibly shattered inside of me causing internal damage. The vet needed to take expensive x-rays to find the exact location of the bullet pieces as well as see what other damage had been done. Then I would need surgery to remove the bullet pieces and repair my insides. My parents went outside to discuss the cost of my care...and they never came back. The vet & I waited patiently for them to return but finally he cleaned up my bullet wound, stitched up my shoulder and called animal control-who in turn brought me to Almost Home. Everyone was very nice and gave me extra treats and lots of hugs and promised to schedule surgery so the pain would go away. I wasnt real interested in the treats or the surgery. You see the surgery would heal the damage for the bullet, but there isnt any kind of surgery that will repair a broken heart. Everyone at the shelter said that I will find a new family who will never abandon me no matter what happens. That made me feel better. I know I just need to think positively for my upcoming surgeries so that I can recover and start the next chapter of my life. I know these surgeries are very expensive and any donations would be appreciated. If anyone would be willing to let me come into their home and recover I would be so happy.
