My name is suicide. I am the result of a culmination of overpowering feelings of worthlessness and depression. I will sneak into your life slowly without anyone seeing me. I will eat away at your soul slowly, taking away your will to live. I will drag you into the depths of a darkness few will ever know or understand. I will make you forget about all the good life has to offer and show you only despair. I will catch you at your lowest moment and then strike, convincing you the only possible answer to your unimaginable pain is death. Those who could have helped will confirm in death what you mistakenly believed in life... that you were weak and selfish. If the world ever figures out that I am not a choice, that with their love, empathy and support they could intervene in my search for your destruction and you can be saved I will lose my grip on the emotionally defenseless. Be there to listen, support, and love those with an emotional/mental illness. They are not having a bad day. Chronic depression can be a crippling disease with a devastating outcome. If you love someone with mental illness, take the time to learn about it. Support them in their illness as you would if they had diabetes or cancer. Mental illness is real, and it is treatable. Learn the warning signs of suicide and dont be afraid to step in and help. Be part of the solution. You may just save a life.
