My neighbor brought over his dead i7 quad core iMac, explaining - TopicsExpress

My neighbor brought over his dead i7 quad core iMac, explaining that the local computer repair shop in Somerville, NJ gave him an estimate of $519 for repair. I agreed to take a look. I found one faulty random access memory chip on the logic board. $29. When the RAM chip blew, it threw the positive contact to the inverter cable. $12. Now. We ask ourselves, WHY did the unit throw a RAM card? Upon careful investigation, I found that it was actually overheating. The heat sink was unfunctional. New heat sink. $22. The iMac is back together, and, according to my neighbor, running faster than it ever did. There is a HUGE difference between $63, and $519. Be VERY, VERY careful when bringing in Macs or PCs for repair. These uneducated and unscrupulous repair clowns can be pure pond scum. At least, I did SOMETHING with a Masters in computer engineering...
