My oh my! An Mra making complete sense! Thank you! Whenever you open a door for Government to remove a human right you are opening a flood gate for more outrageous legislation to be passed. Religion has no place in the work place or Government and especially not my body. (now I do not agree that emergency contraception is not important) but I am stoked that there is SOMEONE on an Mra page who is actually getting this and not just having an ignorant happy parade because it affects the gender they hate. Benjamin ********** Joe, the pills do not cost $2, they are more in the range of $30-$65, and the IUD in question costs between $500-$900. They may be cheap in the UK but you have to consider that the medical system in the US is completely ass backwards and something such as a few hours in a hospital can run you several thousand dollars easily. That said, insurance covering emergency contraception does seem a bit silly, though the basis of their argument not to was complete nonsense as medically they are not abortifacients. The bigger issue at play here is the religious exemption. Religion gets a major free pass in the US, to the extent that parents are able to refuse to allow their children medical treatment and nobody can do anything about it until the kid is actually dead. If this goes no further than exempting emergency contraception, it is a non issue. There is a lot of talk about cases being re-opened and it being taken further than the emergency contraceptives though. It would be smart to support women on this one, at least as far as making sure it does not go any further than the emergency contraceptives being exempt, as sooner or later we will be having a discussion on male birth control options being covered. The reason coverage is important, is because of how ungodly expensive stuff is. The economy here really sucks and minimum wage is set way below what is livable (for instance my living costs are around $3000/month so I would need to make somewhere between $20 and $25 an hour working 40 hour weeks in order to meet that, and that is with all my money going to living costs with no spending money at all. Minimum wage is around $8.50 in some areas, $10 in some, generally in that range throughout the country.) so having to pay for that stuff out of pocket would be pretty bad on people who arent well off. I should also add that the reason this is an issue at all, is because of the insurance part. You can have your own independent insurance or you can have a insurance plan provided by your employer, it would be stupid to have both because you are paying for the insurance either way. In other words, they are making a distinction between having your own insurance and being on an employers insurance plan (again, you pay for it either way) in that an employer can decide that they have a religious objection to something so they dont want the insurance plan they provide to cover whatever it is they object to. That is pretty problematic. Just to reiterate, the reason you need insurance at all is because the medical world of the US is hyper inflated and going without medical insurance is insanity. I had a tick bite and Lyme disease is an issue in my area so I went to an ER to have a doctor remove it properly and prescribe an anti-biotic. I was there for maybe 4 hours or so because I was very low priority so had to just sit around waiting.. Eventually a doctor got to me, used tweezers and took all of 5 minutes, and didnt even prescribe an anti-biotic. My bill was around $1500, (for tweezers and 5 minutes of a doctors time) about a third of which I payed, the other 2/3 my insurance payed. This is why the insurance thing is an issue. 4 hours ago · Edited · 1
