My oldest daughter is smart, quirky, sensitive, soft hearted, funny, straight forward, honest, artistic, musical, loving and is 16 YEARS OLD TODAY!!!! Happy Sweet 16 to my beautiful daughter Kaileen Gauthier. From the moment you were put in my arms in China, you grabbed my hair and my heart!! You brought so much life into our lives with all your Kaileen-isms, your laugh, your love of music, and your contented spirit. You woke up every morning singing: Mamaaaa, Mamaaaa You always had a big smile - you never cried to get up. You would sing and then throw out a Mama or a Mama Im awake. The years brought many different obstacles in your life - health issues, not fitting in at school, finding the right fit for a school. But through it all, you never lost the genuine, loving person that you have always been. You have brought so much laughter into Daddy and my lives....we just never knew what you were going to come out with next!! From an early age you have always asked the tough questions - questions someone of that particular age normally doesnt even think about. You are wise beyond your years and you are a VERY good judge of character. That will serve you well in your life believe me! Sara laughed when God told her she would have a child even though she was old in years. She prayed for a child and her heart ached for a child of her own. God blessed her with Isaac even though she lost faith that she would ever be a mother. I was Sara back before 1997, I had given up the hope of ever being a mother. But God had other plans for us. He blessed me not once but twice with daughters. I am so thankful that we listened to God, stepped out on faith that He would provide the money for the adoption and that he brought us to you. I cant even believe that you are 16 years old and will be a senior in 2 years. You are still that little girl who grabbed a hold of my hair, looked at me and smiled. I have never felt such an overwhelming feeling of love in my life as I did at THAT moment. As the poem goes, you were not made from my flesh but you were born in my heart. I am so proud of the young lady you have become and I look forward, should the Lord tarry, to watching just exactly how the Lord is going to use you in the future. Happy Birthday my sweet Kaileen Shushan...Mama loves you!
