My oldest son is starting to read more non fiction or books that illustrate the darker side of life. I remember the book that rocked my world at about his age was Peoples Temple Peoples Tomb, about the cult Jim Jones led. He is currently reading aloud a book about 9/11 and it brought me to tears because of the memories of that day, the loss for our country and knowing he is growing up and will become very aware of the reality of the world in which we live. But thanks to the wonder of books, they break the ice and open up avenues for conversations about topics I might not pursue on my own.
