My op-ed in todays News-Times about Congress coming together to support background checks for gun sales: Last weeks victory is an important start. The beginning of the beginning. But I believe -- I know -- that we will ultimately prevail because the American people need Congress to take action. I will not give up. The families in Newtown and Chicago and Harlem and now Santa Barbara will not give up. The Newtown effect is not going away. We can and we must honor the victims of gun violence with action.
