My opinion regarding #AliceinArabia will probably displease many - TopicsExpress

My opinion regarding #AliceinArabia will probably displease many of my fellow American Muslims. But I am honestly and seriously displeased with the way weve been handling these issues, and our perception of victory when we can stop a TV show. Here are a few thouthgs: 1. We like to look at the example of the Prophet. During his life, the Prophet was insulted, said to be insane, a magician, a poet, a fabricator, etc. How did the Quran approach these accusations? It eternalized them! The Quran mentions every accusation attack on the Prophet and his message then refutes or simply says its not true. If we are to follow this example, wed let TV shows and attackers be, make our statements (preferably stronger in actions than in words), and let go. 2. The show in question is a script that is still a work in progress. Instead of attacking, why not reach out to the authors and find a way to work with them, understand their perspective, and try to offer a balanced percepective? 3. My understanding is that the show critizies more Saudi Arabia than Islam. Most American Muslims would never live in KSA and suffer its suffocating and anti human rights law. Most of us see the laws of the KSA as a disgrace and a disservice to Islam. Why not look at that as a common ground with the show, and work from there towards a balanced representations of Islam vs, KSA? 4. A spiritually, mentally and psychologically healthy person doesnt panick when theyre attacked. Being terrorized and victimized by a TV show and by criticism in general is simply the ego at work. When we get our ego out of the way, our reaction to such attacks (even when confirmed, which theyre not in the case of the show that doesnt even have a full script and is not yet approved for airing) would be much calmer and more tolerant. 5. Speaking of tolerance, which we like to count as one of our religions pillars, it is only practiced with those who hate and attack us, otherwise its not tolerance at all. The Prophet visited the non-Muslim who threw filth every day at his door when he didnt show up one day. When le learned the filth didnt show up because the guy was sick, he visited him to check on him. Now thats tolerance. Being nice to those who are nice or even neutral towards you is not tolerance by definition. 6. Again the Quranic approach, the Quran teaches that when we are in a company and others start to mock or even insult our religion, we should just leave them and get away until they stop. Here is the reaction of a mature, calm, emotionally healthy and ego-free believer! (when you hear them deny and ridicule the verses of Allah do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Quran 4-140)
