My parents grew up during the depression, that said I grew up - TopicsExpress

My parents grew up during the depression, that said I grew up hearing stories of the difficulties of putting food on the table or receiving an orange for Christmas. I never wanted for anything, as they wished both me and my brother to have a better life. Still the value of a dollar and how fortunate we were was instilled in us. My father passed 20 plus years ago, but I cant help wonder what he would have thought or what unsavory remark issued if he saw the TV commercial for the Ninja. The Ninja, a blender kinda thing that you can throw, mango..pecans...bananas...blueberries...pomegranates add ice for a delicious smoothie or if you wish add milk and create a wondrous homemade ice cream dessert. All this anytime day or night, heck a 24 hour Walmart is right up the street from where Im typing this, Im sure I could put all these items on my debit card. Hmmm, my Dads first job, at the age of 10, was carrying blocks of ice, using large metal tongs...on his back. Many times he lugged them up several flights of stairs or fire escapes, the huge melting blocks of ice were then inserted into peoples Ice-Boxes, the refrigeration of the time. My how things have changed.
