My pastor (Jeff Morris) always gives these great messages about how racism is sin and how he believes that Macon, Ga is suffering right now because God will not prosper sin. I agree with this as fact and am sure that there are countless people who can attest personally to the wretchedness of being treated poorly/wrongly because of the color of their skin. But I want to question even the use of the word racism, because I am not sure that we are correct at all in its usage. Race as defined by the Randomhouse College dictionary is “a group of people related by common descent, blood, or heredity.” And “Ethnol, a subdivision of the human species characterized by a more or less distinctive combination of physical traits that are transmitted in descent.” If we are called the “Human Race,” how then could we have “racism?” In order for us to have racism there would have to be a “sub” and/or upper race. Then and only then someone could say mine is better than yours and possibly be correct. I understand the second part of the definition because the word “ethnol” has to do with “ethnic” (the Greek new testament uses the word Ethnos) which is a good descriptor of the differences between humans. God forbid that I should tell the people who write dictionaries how to judge the meanings of words, but this does not make sense to me? Am I the only person who would question this situation? Or…….did I get it wrong? REASONING: if the validity of a word we use as a people is called into question, then that word looses its place in society. If the word racism does not have a place in our society then all we have are ethnicities, which are the beautiful differences between people. Please comment. However, this is NOT a conversation about “who did what to who” You know – white people bought us because black people sold us…….. Please make objective comments and let’s try to stay on the positive.
