My quick review on HSLDAs new movie: Building the Machine. Adequate but a missed opportunity. if I didnt know this much about it, Id have clicked off thinking this was just an intellectual debate not a disastrous reform The music was slow and mellowed the listener to the urgency of it all.. There was no call to action. This documentary appeared to be more about a need to fill a perceived obligation than to persuade anyone to action. And Farris lost me when he said, I dont think we should be attacking people for their motives? What? Whose side is he on? These are people who want to do a mini psych evaluation on our kids when they take tests and were not supposed to question their motives? If I were a homeschooler whose dues may have helped pay for this, Id be asking, but but but how does it affect ME! None of those dots were connected. No mention of the P-20 seamless education pathway powered by data. Ill have to listen again but I dont even think FERPA or laws violated were mentioned. Building the Machine certainly wont hurt the case against Common Core but it isnt a knock out punch or a strong call to wake up and take action.. I was truly hoping for something more.
