My review of The Expendables 3: Warning: Possible - TopicsExpress

My review of The Expendables 3: Warning: Possible Spoilers Barney (Stallone) augments his team with new blood for a personal battle: to take down Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson,) the Expendables co-founder and notorious arms trader who is hell bent on wiping out Barney and every single one of his associates. ~ IMDB. Now, anyone that has seen the first two movies will pretty much know what theyre going to be getting with this third instalment so, Im just basically going to talk briefly about some of the cast additions. Wesley Snipes plays Doc, one of the original five founding members, recently released from prison. Snipes is a great addition to an already brilliant cast. He really does play a great character and its nice to have the old Snipes trademark quips back on the big screen. Next we have Galgo (Antonio Banderas.) Galgo is a former Spanish Armed Forces sharpshooter and war vet. Galgo is a quick-tongued, overly-excitable, fearless chatterbox, desperate to be of some use to Barney & Co. Antonio plays him with his usual charm and humour and brings us a truly lovable character, like only he can. Then we have the new young-generation editions: Technology wizard, Thorn (Glen Powell,) sharpshooter and boxing master, Mars (Victor Ortiz,) annoying cow, Luna (Rhonda Rousey) and Smilee (Kellan Lutz.) And not forgetting Kelsey Grammer as new team assembler, Bonaparte and Harrison Ford playing the new CIA Field Operations Officer, Max Drummer (because Bruce Willis is an idiot.) As for the villain of the piece? We have Mel Gibson to thank for making this character a great one (much preferable to Jean Claude Van Dammes effort.) Gibson brings his typical nutty loose-cannon approach to the character of Stonebanks and it works perfectly. Now, the plot is pretty much neither here nor there but, I guess its obviously got to have one of some kind to justify the action. This is just out-and-out action gold. As with the first two, its nothing less than absolutely fantastic entertainment. I genuinely dont see the point of the new crew, save only to serve as a slight conflict story of old vs new and to give the seasoned expendables something they have to go save whilst blowing shit up. Aside from that, they really dont add anything worthwhile and Lunas insistence of scoffing men! at the end of most of her sentences really is thoroughly irritating (we get it, youre a strong independent woman with man-issues, get over it.) Over-all this is a great film that I strongly recommend to faithful followers of the franchise, action fans and just anyone looking for a good, enjoyable romp with many returning character favourites. How hard can it be to kill ten men?
