My second week doing comedy I opened for John Pinette. I killed - TopicsExpress

My second week doing comedy I opened for John Pinette. I killed and the next day he had me fired because I wasnt clean enough. Being clean never dawned on me. I just thought being funny was enough. As long as the people laugh, right? I was pissed. I was new to comedy and just didnt realize that as an opener, its your job to warm the crowd up for whoever the SPECIFIC headliner is. It is THEIR crowd - not yours. After the anger of being fired wore off, I worked up a clean set - just in case I ever needed one again. As fate would have it, a few months later I was asked to open for Jeff Dunham, who always demanded a squeaky-clean set from his openers. Needless to say, it worked out OK for me. Im sorry that I never got the chance to thank John. Without the tough lesson he taught me, the Dunham gig doesnt happen and Guitar Guy never exists. RIP, my friend. huffingtonpost/2014/04/06/john-pinette-dead_n_5101932.html
