My sister & I cooked all the recipes for the upcoming cookbook in her kitchen & our friend Toni did all the photography right there too. But guess what . . . my sisters kitchen isnt gluten free!! GASP! Thats not safe for me as a Celiac & there is no way I could have that for my cookbook. So, we got to work. The day before we got started cooking we cleaned it, top to bottom. We quarantined the gluten products, then we disinfected counters, emptied drawers & cupboards, vacuumed them out & washed them down, deglutenized every single crevice of the appliances, swept & mopped, & washed every dish that was safe for us to continue using. After ALL that, we assessed what had to be bought new (cause some things are not safe for g-free use no matter how much you try to clean them). We especially needed new wooden spoons & new cutting boards (along w/ new colanders & a new hand mixer). This is the same set I use in my own house & it was so inexpensive we bought a new g-free set for the cookbook project too. Have you ever had to decontaminate a glutened kitchen? What new stuff did you need?
