My son Spencer Hayes is in Japan, enrolled as one of the only American students at the Tamagawa Academy. He is staying with a Japanese family who speaks no English. Each morning at 5 am he rides his bike to the train station, goes into central Tokyo, boards a bus and is at school by 7 am. He is embedded with other High School seniors, taking calculus, Japanese, Chemistry, English, programming and a full course load. This afternoon we got a letter from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Spencer auditioned back in May and the letter from conductor Scott Gregg informs him that he has earned a spot in the Philharmonic. Thats great news. I used Facebook to get out the word because the 11 hour time difference and scheduling makes real time conversations difficult.
