My staff in Albany were very lucky to be invited to a sneak preview of the National Anzac Centre in Albany, to be officially opened on 1 November as a part of the Albany Anzac weekend. Issued with an “identity card” on arrival, visitors journey through the centre as a real character, experiencing their lives on the boat journey over, in preparations for war in North Africa and in active combat in the trenches or tending the injured in the hospitals. Personal audio units play diary entries when you scan over displays of servicemen and women in uniform and iPads allow you to visualise King George Sound with the massed convoys ready for departure. My staff member Jo Pearce took her father, and ex-servicemen from WWII, Neil MacPherson as a guest. I had the honour of meeting Neil earlier this week when he presented me with a signed copy of his book recounting his experiences in Burma in WWII.
