My students taking time-based narrative (essentially cinema intro), split up into 3 teams last week to shoot some short films with two parties interacting on a park bench, so everybody would get a chance to compose shots and place cameras with appropriate coverage and cutaways. We got about 6 projects. They came in today to find that they would be forming teams to edit only projects that they didnt work on, after a chat with each director about their intent. I asked one student if she agreed with the comment in the film, The Cutting Edge, likening film editing to sewing, or weaving a tapestry. She responded that its more like solving a crime.
