My thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy: 1. I loved it. 2. It isnt Perfect--and I probably love it more because it isnt. 3. It is missing a few things I was hoping for--ie. Flashbacks for the other Guardians besides Quill 4. I dont really mind them not being there. 5. It is utterly GORGEOUS to look at. And textural. a bit like The Fifth Element. 6. As much as I LOVE this movie, some other people will hate it. This cannot be helped--this is a matter of taste. 7. It reminds me of a Guillermo del Toro or Luc Besson film, in that you are getting a doorway into the brain of James Gunn and by seeing what they want to share with the world, you can see a little bit of what makes them tick. 8. Strong Characters with great dialogue will trump story conventions...and sometimes logic...EVERY TIME. Its like a magic trick. And it was what was missing from the Star Wars Prequels. 9. Marketing is very important to these big movies. Look at peoples reactions to the first trailer in February and to the marketing now. Hard to believe its been THE SAME MOVIE the entire time--but it has been. 10. I never once while reading comics imagined Yondu to be a hillbilly. 11. Did you pick up the paradigm shift where this story was about a mans relationship to his mother after generations of Father/Son stories? You go, single moms. 12. I am going to see this movie many more times--and hopefully as many times as possible on The Big Screen. 13. I want toys, books and Model Kits. Like, NOW. 14. Its great to feel like a kid again. 15. Sadly, this film kind of puts the Kibosh on my long gestating LUPIS the Bold project. There are so many parallels that both stories now share, I will once again have to try to retool it. The use of Earth Music as a way to hold a connection to your home world was a big thing. But, maybe I can find a way to make it work. This is neither here nor there. I still love The Guardians. 16. Two Words: Planet Hulk.
