My thoughts on the movie UNBROKEN. Its taken me a while to work - TopicsExpress

My thoughts on the movie UNBROKEN. Its taken me a while to work through my thoughts on this. I LOVE WWII. I LOVED the book, and I wanted to love the movie. I liked the movie, but something was missing. After a lot of processing, this is what I came up with. What the book had ... and what the movie missed ... was the why of Louies story. How was he able to stay strong? Why did he not surrender? The book, of course, shows how God used important people in his life who believed in him. Also, it shows how after the war Louie WAS broken. He surrendered ... to God, and God healed all the broken pieces. Anyone can take the highlights of someones life (good and bad) and string them into a story, BUT the key to every story story is the theme. Its the why. Its the heart-message that resonates with all of us. During a moment where Louie faced certain death he cried out to God and said that IF God saved Him, then He would follow God with his life. (At the time Louie had no idea what that meant, but it was a desperate cry.) God took Louie up on that. God carried Louie through the darkest nights, and when Louie got to the end of himself, and truly surrendered, then God took all those broken pieces and used him to share with multitudes that true strength and healing comes from God alone. Could this have been added in the movie? Yes. It would have taken some subtle moments to share the internal faith story. And, as a result, it would have changed the movie for me and for other viewers. A good movie could have been a transforming movie if a transforming message would have been woven in in a God-honoring way.
