My thoughts on what happened to MH370. AS pilots we are trained - TopicsExpress

My thoughts on what happened to MH370. AS pilots we are trained to know where the best places to land are along a route in case something happens in flight. The left turn by the pilot is telling. In the middle of the Gulf of Thailand where do you go that can land a 777 (10,000 ft or longer runway?) He could go back to Kuala Lumpur but there are 8000 foot mountains in the way, not good if you have an emergency and are losing altitude. Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh ahead of you are too far away. There is nothing to the right but ocean so left it is. There is a small island across the relatively narrow neck of Malaysia called Langkawi with a 13,000 foot runway. This does not explain the loss of communication but here is a theory for that. In case of cockpit fire we are trained to pull, or shut down the main bus, think of it as a breaker box. Then you push in each circuit one at a time to isolate the faulty one. Shutting down the bus could have shut down the transponder and would have stopped communications. And I can tell you if there was a cockpit fire, communicating is the furthest from your mind at that moment. Just my thoughts.
