My thoughts on what happened today on the mountain. We won a small victory today: This day was never intended to be the day that Kinder Morgan gave up and went home. It is part of a stepping stone strategy of holding them off from doing survey work to collect the data which they need to successfully proceed through the NEB hearing. The data needs to be submitted by December 1st and it takes ten days of drilling to collect this data. That will be a huge thorn in their side but nobody can predict how KM will behave after that, we will have to wait and see then adapt and respond accordingly. It is also not in the governments best interests to so blatantly violate Indigenous sovereignty while the whole world is watching. The governments image is fragile at best even with the mainstream narrative. It would be a public relations nightmare to backtrack against all their truth and reconciliation efforts. Im not ruling out that the RCMP wont show up tomorrow morning but there will be people going on and off the mountain to regroup, resupply, and try to balance the rest of their responsibilities and obligations until enough time has passed that they miss their data entry deadline. We need to generally hold them off long enough to change the mainstream narrative from mindless consumption then deal with the fallout later, to a conversation of strategic disengagement where we use the rest of our oil power to evolve into sustainable green tech and economically sound social organization.
