My thoughts run similarly to Adityas previous post. Yes, I understand why people may feel negative emotions if they did not gain a place in the final auditions but I think holding a grudge or bitterness against NYO is contradictory to what NYO should be about in the first place. Yes, I personally did not receive a place in the final auditions either but in my eyes, thats okay. Because there are musicians across the country also striving to gain a place at NYO doing it out of their sheer passion for music and so for those who do manage to get in, it becomes a brilliant opportunity for them however that does not mean to say that for those who do not, their musical path is over. Surely when everyone auditioned, everyone did so with the end goal being to play music with peers in a tightly-knit ensemble? I believe that the main reason for wanting to join NYO is to play with great players to create something unique, not to play against them. But for that reason, those who do not gain a place should not hold spite or grudge against the group but instead support those who do get through to the next round/the orchestra. I believe that the community of NYO extends far more than the initial 160 odd members, and that for those who aspire to enter NYO next time, those who have friends in the NYO and for those who just simply wish to witness some amazing music being played, they are all part of the spirit and community of NYO so I believe that it is wrong to disregard either yourself or the ensemble if you do not manage to gain a place this year or any following years, because its about everyone contributing. As every player contributes their sound in an orchestra, for those who do not get in should also contribute in ways such as supporting those in the orchestra and also getting involved in other musical aspects in their lives; after all, NYO isnt the only musical opportunity in the country! As for those who managed to successfully gain a place in the second round, I wish you all good luck and going further on, Im sure the orchestra this year will be as amazing as ever. Well all be expecting great things once again! My two cents - Mark
