My top 15 favorite oscar nominated films of the 1980s: #1 Raiders of the Lost Arc (1981) Directed by Steven Spielberg Starring: Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, John Rhys-Davies and Denholm Elliott. Nominated for 9 academy awards and won 5 for sound effects, visual effects, editing, sound and art direction. Archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones (Ford) is hired by the US government to find the Arc of the Covenant before the Nazis. This is one of my all time favorite films and it is the ultimate action/adventure ride, with powerful religious artefacts, evil Nazis and arguably the greatest movie hero of all time - Indiana Jones and James Bond are in my mind the greatest of all time. John Williams score is amazing and legendary as most of his scores are. This is of course my pick for best picture and best director in 1981 which went to Chariots on Fire and Warren Beatty (Reds). What does the M4s think of this film?
