My uncles obituary: Darrell David Howell, 53, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in Caldwell County on June 28, 1960, to Mary Williams Howell of Lenoir and the late James Edward Howell. As a child Darrell was selected as an Easter Seal child. He loved watching football games, fishing and taking pictures. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Betty Connor Howell, Lonnie Wilson Williams and Clancy Mae Dula Williams; brother, Kenneth Lynn Howell; and sister, Patsy Vermae Howell. Other than his mother, he is survived by his brothers, Jerry Edward Howell and wife Ruby of Hudson; Gerald Edward Howell of Hamilton, Ohio; nephew, David Dwayne Friesland and wife Judy of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; niece, Cynthia Renee Howell of Hickory; and great-niece, Jessica Tiara Friesland of Roan Mountain, Tenn. A celebration of Darrell’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Suter and the Rev. Randall Honeycutt officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Edward Nelson, Donald Anderson, Josh Blevins, Ray Bowman, Matthew McGuire, Derek Pope and Daniel Whitt.
