My update since joining this group last week. I have IPF and was admitted to The Mayo Clinic for either a left or a double lung transplant. Well after four days on the UNOS list a donor was found but there was only one good lung which just happened to be the left lung. This also came on our 34th wedding anniversary. The risk of waiting would have most likely meant I would not be sitting here typing this post now. I was clinging to life at that point. We prayed and thanked God and this young man whos family I hope to one day meet and thank personally. We moved forward and the surgery went well. After a few days in the ICU most of the chest tubes have been removed and I am now on the recovery floor and am doing very well. I dont know how much time this bought me. A year, a few, no one knows. I plan to work my one ok lung I have along with the new one and make the most out of my time and go from there. I dedicated myself to donor awareness and plan to use the years of experience I have gained the in military to get back in front of as many people as I can to promote donor awareness and I plan to do it using my own story. I will be a walking, talking, motivating poster child for the gift of life when someone becomes an organ donor. For us it was always just second nature. Until I needed to be saved I had no idea just how few donors there are out there and how many people pass away waiting for that gift of life. I have other friends with this disease who have been there for me and I plan to be there for them and anyone else I can help. Whatever time I have been given it will be used to help others. Thank you to all of you for your support and I promise to be here for anyone I can help. God Bless all of you.
