My veterans day thoughts.....I know I was not around in the days - TopicsExpress

My veterans day thoughts.....I know I was not around in the days of Vietnam but the way the warriors were treated when they came home was disturbing. Today we have such an incredible backing from the men and women at home it is unbelievable. To read through face book on my news feed and everyone saying something nice about the men and women who preserve our freedoms is almost overwhelming. It is awesome to see the support. AMERICA SHOULD BE PROUD On the other side I have heard a whole bunch of people lately talking about PTSD...#1 I think it is great that they are talking about it. # 2 I am happy to see that people are recognizing it . Regardless of what these men and women went through their tour was hard. Just being away from family, friends, and home plays an incredible emotional toll on them. I couldnt imagine how it was for those that have kids. I have had a several recent events that happened and it really makes you think....you dont know what a person is going through, no matter how well you know a person you have NO idea. If you see someone from the military or in life that seems to be struggling or might be on edge. Dont just mark them as crazy, talk to them...you just may be the person that fixes there issue or gets them the help they need. We are just like everyone else, we are way too proud to admit we have an issue. PTSD is a serious monster and most of us dont know we have it until it is too late! Make a difference, make your buddy smile. I would like to think I am a pretty strong physically & mentally...but it happened to me. Yes the guy that can find the positive in ANY situation crumbled. In the last year my mother/wife and I were able to talk about how I was when I returned from Iraq and it SHOCKED me. The mentality changes, the stare and my serious sleeping issues. My job was not hard in Iraq but it still messed me up. I couldnt imagine what some of the guys that were kicking in doors went through. If it happened to me it can happen to anyone. Thats my public service announcement for the day. I figured today was a good day. I am now going to go back to sitting here naked wrapped up in my American flag! Watch your buddy! USA
