My wanderings around Georgia continue. Spent some time poking - TopicsExpress

My wanderings around Georgia continue. Spent some time poking around Augusta which sits on the Savannah River just across from South Carolina. Its an old river city with lots of mills and warehouses due to the cotton industry. Lots of Georgia red clay brick buildings. A grand boulevard separated by fountains and gardens sweeps right through downtown. Its a bit worn, but must have been really something in its day. The city was created by the founder of Georgia, James Oglethorpe, which takes it back to just after Savannah was established. The Augusta Canal was constructed for the cotton trade, and is now a glassy recreational ribbon through the city with kayakers, walkers and bikers. Even saw a cluster of buzzards dealing with some carrion. Acres and acres of red clover all over the area. Of course, Augusta is probably best known for the Masters Golf Tournament, which was only a couple of weeks ago. Still loving it that my client has me wanderlusting around my new home state!
