My wife got her first deer on monday, unit 22. It was way down on a mountain across from us (about 1000 vertical feet down) bedded down. We got down there and he stood up an ran and she shot him at 185 yards when he stopped. It was right before dark. After a short tracking job we found it. 1 hour of quartering and getting all the meat and head off. After that it was a 4 hour hike through creek beds an straight up a nasty mountain to the truck and an hour drive back home to Payson. But we got all the meat and all of our gear in 1 trip. About a 100 lb pack for me and 50-60 pounds for her. It was the hardest physical thing i have ever done but we got it done, thanks to God who gave us the strength when i thought i was going to crumble.
