My year end adventure 2014: The second to the last day of the year after my last stop on my to do list and two miles from home at a major intersection trying to turn left I noticed a warning light on my dash that said TMSV and the battery icon came on. Wow I thought it is a good thing I am close to home but then my accelerator would not work forcing me to coast in idle making my left turn but unable to get out of traffic a half block later my car stopped with finality. The emergency flashers didnt work, the keys were stuck in the ignition and the cars behind me were upset. I got out of the car called 911 and reported that I was in a stalled car impeding traffic on major road way. Two of Tampas finest police officers showed up just as I was talking to AAA and the cars behind me were getting more vocal. I steered while they pushed me into the nearest safe place while I explained to AAA in a far away city where I was and what the issue was. The bottom line was I needed a tow truck to take myself and my car to the local dealership . Now my car was full of stuff so I called neighbors but none answered then a return call from a couple on their way back from the airport who would pass by my location volunteered. They picked up my valuables and I called the dealership telling them to expect me. The TOW truck following his GPS instead of the detailed instructions given went by looking at the other side of the street then returned as he noticed me waving at him. I explained the issues, but he said that he was required to try a jump start first. It worked, the car started, then he suggested that I could drive myself to the dealership 5 miles away to which I said no. I explained I could not explain to any rational person why I took that risk then the car completely failed again and the issue was finalized. The dealership was wonderful but again the car would not start so they had to connect a jump start battery and leave in order to move it the shop. The service advisor commented that I had handled a very stressful situation very well to which I said I had lots of practice. After several hours the diagnosis was a bad alternator which caused the battery to discharge and all electrical functions to cease. With the new electronic control system and no backup cables or direct controls nothing works without electricity. Now another neighbor with whom I had left a message earlier called volunteering to pick me up while my car was kept overnight. I am blessed to have God looking out for me and wonderful police and neighbors who came to my aid. God Bless everyone and a Happy New Year.
