My youngest daughter turns 13 today. Surprisingly, this has turned out to be a weird feeling for me, because my 13th year is the first one that I can really clearly remember. I had a sleepover birthday party where my buds came over and we played light as a feather, and crazy Mary. The guys that came are no longer in my circle...it was after this that I started to make lifelong friends like Molidor, (Teri Abear Molidors Hubby)Noots, ( Lisa Nootbaars Brother) and Duax, (Denise Kraly Duaxs Hubby)… This was the year that legal custody was awarded to Barbara Bell-Parrillo and Jim Parrillo, (my Aunt and Uncle) after my Mom passed so I was officially their child (although I had felt felt like it for a while.) This was about the time that my twin Kimberly Parrillo Tracy began climbing up, then leaping from things at random, hoping someone would catch her before she hit the ground. Right around this time my two brothers were being created and born and I remember Rocci Parrillo and Tony Parrillo coming home from the hospital. It was the year I found a stride with music in 8th grade.I went to Music Camp in Madison Wisconsin this summer before 8th grade and took a fan-freakin-tastic photo with Wendy Morris Arther wearing colored stripe socks pulled up to the knees like Linda Ronstadt. (You can find it on her page.) It was the year I got the mad crush on the adorable 7th grader across the gym named Karen Baker (Favia.) My 13th year was the year that my cousin (read brother) Ron Skowronski, and I started to go separate directions allowing us to appreciate each other for the gifts and talents we had instead of competing against each other. My 13th year was the first year that I can remember very, very clearly…So for the first time since her birth, although I believe we have had a great relationship so far, I think I might understand Syd a little better. I might empathize a bit more. I might look at her life struggles differently. This year, her birthday means something more to me because I know that while she might have some memories in bits and pieces from before this, everything that happens from now on will have a lasting imprint on her as a girl growing to a woman. So, Syd…Here is hoping that when you reach my age you can look back at this year as a defining time for you too. Here is hoping that your 13th year is the start (and continuation) of your trip down a wonderful life. Happy birthday Sydney Merle Sanchez! Enjoy the ride. I Love You Very Much Daddy
