Expectedly, the development elicited wild jubilation among the church members and the Olaleye household. The Pointer learnt that the baby was discovered by some church members at about 7pm on Friday with a letter strung to his neck, apparently by the woman who had stolen him.Daresimi’s father, Mr. Victor Olalelye, told our correspondent that the baby was discovered at the entrance of the church with a letter attached to his neck by the woman who stole him.According to him, the mystery woman who did not identify herself, in the letter stated, inter alia; “please, you people should forgive me. I don’t mean any harm. I am a childless woman; a pastor of a church directed me to steal a child and keep it for 14 days and that, at the end of the last day, I will be able to be pregnant and give birth to children of my own. So, I acted on the instruction that very pastor gave to me, and again you can see that the child is healthy, because I took good care of him. I am troubled I could not keep the child as I also learnt that the pastor of the church where I stole the child and the entire church members have placed curse on me”Olaleleye, also quoted the mystery woman as pleading: “I am using the opportunity to beg God, the church, the parents of the boy to forgive and reverse the curse placed on me and also help me to pray so that I can have children of my own”.The letter is with the police at ‘A’ Division, Asaba, where the matter is being investigated.Olaleleye revealed how the good news was broken to him, thus:“When the pastor of the church phoned me that there was a baby that was found in the church premises, I did not believed it that it could be my very child, but when I got there and discovered that it was my eight-month old baby boy, I was full of joy and I began to praise God and worship Him, for His mercies towards the family. My wife, and Daresimi’s mother, Chioma Olaleye, could not also hold herself but burst in tears of joy”He added: “We are happy; my family is thanking all, particularly the church members, who prayed and fasted with us within the 13 days the child was missing. We also thank the police for the prompt attention given to the matter.”Contacted by phone, the Pastor of the church, Pastor Godfrey Oshilim, told The Pointer that he was called by some church members after the child was seen crying in the church compound and when they got there, behold it was him, and immediately all who were present worshipped God. He added: “Later, we contacted the police who are handling the matter after the child had been identified by the parents.”According to him, “though we are happy that the child was brought back, we are still praying to God to expose the suspect; she must come forward and ask for forgiveness before the curses placed on her will be lifted.”He stressed: “I am saying this because, the suspect dropped the child with a letter begging for forgiveness; we are ready to forgive, but she should come out so that we can know who we are to forgive”.The pastor said following the ugly incident, security has been beefed up in and around the church, particularly on Sundays. He said the church had made arrangement with the police for two mobile policemen on Sundays, aside of more church members who have been recruited into the security section, with all members detailed to be on alert to forestall recurrence.A competent police source at ‘A’ Division confirmed the recovery of the stolen child but added that investigation was on to unmask the suspect. As at the time of filing this report, the father of the victim said the child had been handed over to them and that they would be taking him to hospital for general medical checkup, though he looked healthy, from physical appearance.
