Mystery of Sai Baba Life History.I would thanked to Malathi Pradeep ji for this wonderfull sharing.Blessed everyone of us.Sai Ram :-) This article depicts certain stories/places relating to Shirdi Sai Baba, which you might have never seen or heard before, be it regarding his place of Birth, His Artifacts, His First Temple, Places he visited before coming to Shirdi etc, & does not try to challenge or confirm any facts/beliefs mentioned herein nor intends to hurt the sentiments of devotees. It is just an effort to portray certain points mentioned in various books written on the life of Sai Baba. Till date so many Movies, TV Serials etc have been made on the Life & Teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba but all of them started from Shirdi and finished also at Shirdi. But this article tries to take you beyond Shirdi & show you places / stories which you might have never seen or heard before. And, as it was the question of Faith of Lakhs of Babas devotees, instead of just going by of what has been said or heard, a thorough research was done on all the books written on the Life of Shirdi Sai Baba and the oldest books mainly by Das Ganu & V. B. Kher were finally taken into account to depict all what has been mentioned in this article. The holy Shri Sai Satcharitra was also referred to but nothing much could be traced from it regarding Babas Birth or past because it too circles mainly around Shirdi only. 1) First the Shirdi Temples head priest Shri.Balasaheb Joshis views were taken on the unknown facts of Babas Life, but Joshiji dismissed these notions because according to him Baba had descended as a Avatar. 2) Further research revealed that before coming to Shirdi, Sai Baba first came to Khirdi Village in Ahmednagar itself but was ridiculed & driven away from there by the villagers and so while leaving Khirdi, Baba had told the villagers that the water of this village will always be and remain salty as compared to the sweet water present everywhere just outside of the boundary of Khirdi Village. When tasted the water from Khirdi Village pumps did taste salty. Now, the Khirdi Villagers regret the decision of their forefathers to drive away Baba from their village which if not had been done, today Khirdi would be as famous and blessed as Shirdi ! 3) Then the place was explored where Baba had lit his Chillum (Clay smoking pipe) by striking his Chimta (Tong) twice on the ground. First water had spurted out from there and later when Baba again struck his Chimta (Tong) again, fire was ignited which Baba used to light his Chillum. The water however, which spurted out then, till today trickles out little by little and no matter how hot the weather, it continues in the same manner without drying out. Babas footprints have been installed at this place beneath the mango tree where Baba sat to light his Chillum. 4) Sai Baba appeared for the first time in Shirdi as a young boy and after spending a few years there he had disappeared for many years from Shirdi. It is said that he had met Chand Patil in the forests, with whom he had gone to stay in his village Dhup Kheda for 6 to 8 years. Chand Patil was the head of this village & the Stone on which Baba sat under a neem tree in Dhup Kheda is till present today just besides the Samadhi of Chand Patil. 5) Then came the Bhivpuri Sai Baba Temple, which happens to be the FIRST Sai Temple in the World as it was made in 1916, before Baba had taken Maha-Samadhi. It was built by an atheist turned staunch devotee Shri.Keshav R.Pradhan during Babas Lifetime itself. In this Temple one can see the the statue of Sai Baba which Baba HIMSELF had given to Shri.Keshav and had told him “Go to Bhivpuri. Build a temple for me there. Keep this statue in the temple and worship it. You need not come to Shirdi any more.” Pradhan returned to Bhivpuri but did not follow Baba’s instructions. When he next came to Shirdi Baba said, “When I have come to your house, why have you come here? Bhivpuri is your Shirdi. Go there and do as I told you.” So, Pradhan built a small temple near his house at Bhivpuri & installed & worshiped the statue of Baba. In the silence of the night the sound of the temple doors opening would sometimes be heard. Baba’s form would be seen coming out of the temple and resting under a tree in the front yard. The sound of the temple doors closing would be heard again at three in the morning. All these leelas were experienced not only by Pradhan and his family but also by other devotees. This Temple is only 1Km. from Bhivpuri Road Railway Station in Karjat Taluka of Raigad District`Maharashtra. 6) Then came Sai Babas possible Birth Place which is located at Pathri, District Parabhani, Maharashtra, India. Shri V.B. Kher, a Sai devotee and researcher, conducted extensive research in 1975 to discover the birthplace of Sai Baba. His systematic study of all the available material pointed to Pathri, a small village in the Marathwada district of Maharashtra, as the possible birthplace of Baba. Baba had referred to his family and birthplace in conversations with Mhalsapati and Swami Sai Sharan Anand, two of his close disciples. Saints like Madhavnath and Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi have also indicated Pathri to be the birthplace of Sai Baba. Kher decided to visit Pathri and conduct further research. He contacted with late Shri Dinkarrao Chaudhari, a lawyer and farmer from the respected Chaudhari family of Pathri, who recalled how his late father had once pointed to one Bhau Bhusari & remarked at the sad plight of a descendant of Sai Baba! Later, some Muslim clients who came to see Dinkarrao stated that Sai Baba had been born in a Brahmin family in Pathri and had been taken away by a fakir when he was a child. Kher then visited numerous residents of Pathri and made lists of all the Brahmin families, with details about their sects, family deities etc. He began correspondence with Prof. Raghunath Bhusari, the only direct living descendant of the Bhusari family who provided information about the family tree. The circumstantial evidence indicated that Sai Baba was Haribhau Bhusari, who left home at the age of 8 in search of God. Kher says that this theory advanced is probable and he leaves the matter to the readers to judge for themselves. Artifacts: During the digging of the Temple foundation, a basement of 6’ x 6’ with two arches and a tunnel just below the proposed Sanctum Sanctorum were discovered. Two quern stones; an Idol each of Hanuman and Khandoba; Pooja articles like ‘pali’, ‘panchpatra’ made of copper, a ‘sahaan’, ‘puntees’ and a Vibhuti like substance similar to that found at Gangapur were found. To give the devotees an idea of the old home, a part of the old foundation has been preserved in its natural condition with the old arches and connecting passages intact. The basement also houses a meditation hall. To preserve and protect this invaluable artifacts of Baba, the Temple Trust has made Glass wall barriers so as to prevent devotees from scraping and picking up the stones or mud from the dilapidated house of Baba. When asked as to why the people of Shirdi do not believe Pathri to be the birth place of Sai Baba, the trustee replied that Pathri is the birthplace of Baba and some people say that i ts reference could be found in earlier versions of the Shri Sai Satcharitra which were edited out later. 7) Then came Sailu district of Maharashtra, where it is said that Baba spent 12 years learning Yoga by his Guru Shri Keshavraj Babasaheb Maharaj who used to take Baba 30 kms away, everyday to a fort in the Jalna District of Umarkhed Village, to initiate him. The reference for this can be found in a book written by one saint during Babas time. 8 ) Finally came the Khandoba Temple in Shirdi where Baba had arrived with Chand Patil and was referred to as Sai for the first time by the Khandoba Temples priest Mhalsapati.
