Myth: Afghanistan is Americas Longest War. Reality is that dumb Americans dont know their own history. Accepting the Congressional definition of legal War Status, the longest formal war involving the United States is that with North Korea and China, which as of today (Dec 29, 2014) has lasted exactly 786 months (65 and a half years), and shows few signs of ending anytime soon. For those who may object that the 1953 armistice ended the conflict for all practical purposes, note that the latest battle in this continuing war involved the sinking of a South Korean warship by a probable North Korean submarine-fired torpedo in March 2010. Armistices may suspend hostilities, but unlike peace treaties, do not end the state of war. If you are a U.S. Soldier today and get assigned to the South Korean DMZ . . . you draw combat pay. Americans buy anything politicians tell them . . . as long as it sounds nice!
