M’membe Rejoices after Andrew Banda Conviction Post Newspaper owner Fred M’membe celebrated as a perfect Valentine gift with his partner Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito the conviction of fourth Republican president Rupiah Banda’s son. M’membe, according to sources, was in jovial moods yesterday after magistrate Joshua Banda convicted Andrew. M’membe told his followers that the conviction was good because it showed that the fight against corruption was working. The sources said M’membe was happy the conviction of Banda who give a false impression about President Sata’s fight against corruption while covering his government deals. M’membe is enjoying massive government contracts that are single sourced disadvantaging other competitors. “It was like a Valentine gift for M’membe and Mutembo. They are very happy saying yes, we have got them,” the source said. M’membe says the jailing of Andrew serves as the starting point to Rupiah Banda’s misery. “They are hoping they can get a conviction for the former president very soon so that they can divert attention,” a source said. Andrew was convicted Friday for 24 months imprisonment with hard labour. Andrew was accused of soliciting two percent claim for every contract that Italian firm Fratelli Locci got from government.
