N. Dennis 18-11-2014 Insurance company H. Savy installs Softclans technology The market leader and the country’s only privately-owned insurance company recently installed Softclans technology - Softclans Leverage Management Systems (SLAMS) - an insurance solution to make input-processing a painless experience. In mid-October, H. Savy Insurance announced its 2013/2014 audited financial results. The company’s premium earnings stood at SCR137 million for general business and profits before tax amounted to SCR33.7 million. Commenting on these excellent results, the company’s chairman Jean Weeling-Lee said, “the company’s performance goes to show that even in a difficult market, customers still look at insurance from an overall value and service proposition – we are not always the cheapest in the market but we are certainly well and positively differentiated in the area of service, client engagement and after-sales care. With the roll-out of the new SLAMS system, our service delivery will see a sea change in quality and friendliness, showcasing our unending commitment to serve our clients better and to win over others who as yet, are not part of the winning HSI fraternity”. . In a statement, H.Savy Insurance Company explained that it had been using AIMS software (Advanced Insurance Management System) launched by Amarco, a private company based in Nairobi, Kenya, since 2000. AIMS turned out to be unsuccessful as H. Savy Insurance Company was facing slow business growth. The AIMS solution system had proved highly stable and robust in operation but it lacked many business functionalities and suffered from chronic integration problems between part of the finance module and the underwriting modules. Furthermore, it stated that the architecture was complex and convoluted with many add-on fixes, as the programmer implemented some user-demand changes over its life-cycle. Under extreme usage, the system would operate in slow mode, causing both staff and customers with unnecessary frustration. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the company took the challenge of undertaking its biggest transformation phase and installed the new software product of Softclans technologies – Softclans Leverage Management Systems (SLAMS). Softclans is a privately owned software company also headquartered in Nairobi. According to the press communiqué, the objective of changing to new software was to provide the fastest, most engaging and most seamless level of service to the company’s growing pool of customers and to have a pleasant working atmosphere for both staff and customers. SLAMS, a modern Windows-based insurance solution package was commissioned on November 3, 2014, after an intensive gestation period stretching six months. Softclans, which is a software provider, is headed the original programmer and architect of the old Unix-based CQCS AIMS system, Mike Mulwa, who is assisted by his co-programmer Martin Maiyo. Both software professionals agreed to code and customise the software to the specific requirements of the company. Both Kenyan nationals provided extensive expertise to the IT professionals of H. Savy Insurance Company. The company’s IT project team is headed by Maureen Hollanda, Jean-Francois Adam, Jean-Paul d’Offay and Idris Sakwa. TODAY spoke to Maureen Hollanda about the new software. “The SLAMS system was developed from the ground-up with the emphasis on a more user-friendly experience, with design considerations catering both for future technologies and growing emphasis on internet and smart devices, including SMS alerts, and web access for our customers. This will facilitate the insurance experience and keep them constantly in touch with new business offerings.” Asked about the benefits of SLAMS, Mrs. Hollanda replied that, “the SLAMS system will offer our customers a quicker, more-informative and friendlier experience, including but not limited to, better data representation and reporting. These capabilities with document mapping and data exporting are fully compatible with all major file formats such as Adobe Acrobat and equivalent (PDF), HTML, RTF, TXT, XLS and image formats. Customers can select their preferred format when receiving policies and related documents.” She went on to say that the new SLAMS platform offers integrated insurance management that facilitates underwriting management, claims processing, receipting, payments, banking, fixed accounts management, investment management and other key services that the customers have come to expect from H.Savy Insurance Company. 2014 has been an exciting and transformative year for H. Savy Insurance Co Ltd. Customers have seen and, above all, felt the quantum improvement in the company’s service delivery, as well as enjoyed a palette of new products. The present wave of changes started in 2013 when the company’s board agreed to invest over SCR6 million in revamping the premises and business platform. Inset Did you know?
