NABIAC FIRE BEING CONTROLLED Although still burning through - TopicsExpress

NABIAC FIRE BEING CONTROLLED Although still burning through inaccessible swampland, the scrub fire which began south-west Nabiac, near Minimbah on Wednesday, is now being effectively controlled by RFS firefighters. Since the fire started RFS volunteers from brigades across the Great Lakes and Gloucester areas, with support from the Lower Hunter, have worked day and night to ensure no property was threatened by the fire, which initially was driven by high winds. Thanks goes out to all those who worked so hard in very difficult conditions Crews will continue to patrol and monitor the fire and it is expected columns of smoke will still be visible from Forster-Tuncurry, until the fire is completely extinguished. Although the official bushfire season is still some weeks away this fast moving fire, which has burnt through some 900 hectares, is a timely reminder to all residents near bushland to have an up to date Bushfire Survival Plan Landholders wishing to conduct burn-offs for hazard reduction or agricultural purposes are reminded of their responsibility to ensure they have the resources to contain any fire, and that they must advise their neighbours and the RFS of their intentions.
