NALIYERA (By Walter Moyo) With only a worn-out chilundu To canopy her against the numbing breezes Of a typical winter night She sets forth to an unknown destination Oozing lachrymal glands Setting floods to her innocent face As she becomes the victim Of a convoluted fate Wobbling, she curses the day she was born A broken heart. A broken vow. A beautiful lady. A miserable ordeal. Stark memories Find their way into her thoughts Her unfruitful pleading, her gored heart Get out!. She recalls him shouting In his hoarse voice As he dines with another lady And guzzles down whiskey Little by little She disappears into the dark Her unknown future Seeming a better option Than her dwelling in the perils Of a malevolent husband.
