Mora ra ba ug iyang gyud suportahan kining tawhana. A CAPITOL-OWNED pickup truck hit a couple on a motorcycle killing a 50-year-old man and injuring his wife last Sunday night in Barangay Don Pedro Rodriguez, Bogo City. Felix Mirambel died inside the trauma center of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City at 2:52 p.m. yesterday, said his nephew, Edgar. Edgar said his aunt, Marites, who was Felix’s passenger, fractured some bones. She underwent surgery yesterday and is scheduled for another operation today, he said. Edgar told Sun.Star Cebu that Capitol chief security officer Loy Anthony Madrigal was riding the pickup truck (license plate SJC-600) when the accident occurred. Advertisement Gov. Hilario Davide III said he placed Madrigal under a 15-day preventive suspension starting yesterday as the Committee on Discipline and Investigation (Codi) will investigate him over the accident. Codi is also investigating Madrigal on his alleged affair with his secretary, who is married. Sun.Star Cebu’s calls to Madrigal yesterday were left unanswered. Madrigal told radio dyAB yesterday that he was not driving the pickup truck when the accident happened. He did not elaborate. Davide urged Madrigal to turn over the pickup truck that the Provincial Government issued him. PO3 George Ocena, traffic investigator of Bogo City Police Station, said the accident occurred while the Mirambel couple was traveling home to Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City from Barangay Lamintak Sur in Medellin. Felix and Marites worked in a golf resort there. Ocena said the pickup truck driven by Alberto Naraja of Canagahan in San Remigio hit the Mirambel couple while trying to overtake another motorcycle. The Mirambels were thrown away from the impact. They were brought to the Bogo City District Hospital but were later transferred to VSMMC to receive further treatment. Release Ocena said Naraja was released from police custody after reaching an agreement with the victims’ relatives over hospital expenses. The governor said the Provincial Government will shoulder all medical expenses of the couple and the Felix’s funeral expenses. “We are so sorry,” he said. He said assistant provincial social welfare and development officer Rose Jao took care of the couple’s hospital bills yesterday. Edgar said Madrigal’s group allegedly pointed a gun at his aunt and uncle. “Nisiyagit akong iyaan og tabang. Nitapok na ang mga tawo mao tong nadala sila (My aunt shouted for help. Because of the crowd, my aunt and uncle were brought to the hospital),” he toldSun.Star Cebu. Davide said Madrigal told him about the accident and that they brought the victims to VSMMC. Edgar said his family plans to file a complaint against the pickup truck driver. He said his aunt and uncle were among those who lost their home when typhoon Yolanda made landfall in northern Cebu last Nov. 8. “Nag-barong-barong lang intawon na sila karon(They live in a makeshift hut),” Edgar said.
