Peters of Engine 42 was fatally injured in the line of duty while fighting an industrial fire on West Huron Street. Peters fell ill when he was overcome by fumes at the West Huron Coke Company. He was treated at Henrotin Memorial Hospital, and discharged to his home, but he never recovered and died the following day, March 6. Peters was survived by a widow and three children.
