NAME SUGGESTIONS??? We need some help coming up with names for the Girls. May and Kay were given to them at the dealer barn but they just dont quite fit ... and we keep messing their names up ;) May is the older one. 20 years. She is a lover of cookies and has already smooshed one bucket hoping we would fill it up again! Her belly suggests she has been bred. Seems like she has had a hard life. She has shown some moments of appreciating our care and attention but she isnt a full believer that she is safe yet. She loves her alfalfa but equally loves her coastal hay. She enjoys sun bathing but is smart enough to move into the shade when she gets too hot. Her coat is still pretty heavy but she is shedding out well and seems to relax and enjoy getting her coat out. When we were grooming her a couple nights ago she rested her face next to Jays chest. It seemed like she wanted to just be there in the moment with him. She appears to be the more confident one but she doesnt really want to leave Kay either. She doesnt care if we take Kay out to work on her but when we have her out, she doesnt really want to leave the barn alone. She doesnt show the anxiety, but chooses to stay close rather than explore outside of the barn. Kay is the younger one with canker. She is about 10 years. The trailer driver wondered if she is Mays daughter. Were going to have a DNA test run at Texas A&M and well let you know what we learn. Kay is less interested in us as sources of love or affection. She startles a little when we walk into the barn if she hadnt heard us coming. We try to talk as were walking in but sometimes she still gets worried. Jay has felt a real kindness and engagement from her but she is very guarded. Kay gets very worried and physically agitated when we take May out of her stall to work with her, even if it is just to the wash rack that is so close to Kay. She is clearly very worried about any potential of being separated from May. This is how Ben and George were initially and although they are still very bonded, the anxiety of being separated for short times is not nearly as significant. Kay is the power house of the herd. Although she is the shortest of all 4 drafts (only 16.1 1/2 we both feel that pound for pound, she is the most powerful. This in part is due to her coping mechanisms but wow, is she strong! As we learn more about their personalities, well share that. Well try to get some video too. So far we havent done that but maybe we can get some video footage tonight :-) So ... you all had some awesome ideas for the Boys and helped us come up with Ben and George which seem to fit them perfectly. Now its time for the Girls :-) Thank you in advance for your help with this very important task!!!
