According to Fridays ABC News 10, a Sacramento, California, man is accused of taking his elderly border collie to a river and drowning her with a leash and a 12-pound bowling ball. The man wanted for the heinous crime is 47-year-old William David Meek; Meek is believed to have thrown Zelda, who was 12-years of age, into the American River this past June. Meek had told his girlfriend that he was going to take the senior dog to the animal shelter, but that did not happen. Zeldas body was discovered on June 17 - a microchip in the dogs body revealed that she had been owned by Meek for her entire life. A necropsy on Zeldas body showed that the senior dog had struggled in the water before dying; her lungs were full of water. Meek has not yet been arrested - he was due in court on Friday morning on an unrelated charge, but he did not show up. Meek is facing a felony charge for the malicious maiming of an animal. According to Fox 40 News, Meek has a total of three outstanding warrants, including two drug-related charges and the animal cruelty charge.
