NANS Passes Vote Of Confidence On Shekarau The National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister Of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, distancing the union from the declaration of war against the minister by a faction of the union led by Comrade Tijani Usman Shehu. It said Shehu was not a registered student of any university so could not be president of NANS The factional NANS leader, Comrade Shehu had announced the declaration of war on Shekerau by the student body and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack the minister over what he called the minister’s dishonorable actions. But the president of NANS, Comrade Ali Wali, at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, passed a vote of confidence on the education minister who he said resolved the lingering ASUP strike in a matter of weeks after his appointment. He said, “We are proud to say that President Goodluck Jonathan has once again placed a round peg in a round hole by appointing Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau as minister of education”. In a bid to rid it of partisanship, Wali said NANS had set up a commitee to sanitize the association and rid it of dissidents who had converted the association that was once the Nigerian students’ pride into a full time business run by a cabal who are non students “This same cabal that has hijacked the machinery of NANS today has a 45-year old man, one Mr Tijani Usman as its figure head. Mr Usman Tijani in some instances claims to be a student of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and at other occasions claims to be a student of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic Kaduna. Either way we say without fear or favour, affection or illwill that he is neither a student nor graduate of any institution known to us. “ We assure Nigerian students that we shall sanitize this organization no matter what the cost may be”, he stated. e minister of information “. NANS also condemned in totality the activities of Boko Haram especially the most recent killings and bomb blasts in Kano, Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states and sympathized with tye families of those killed and injured in the cause of this unfortunate incident at the same time.
