NASARAWA KILLINGS FORCES COMMISSION TO SUSPEND LG POLL Category: News Published on Wednesday, 09 October 2013 17:26 Written by Hir Joseph, Lafia Hits: 409 The Nasarawa State local government election fixed for December 14 has been suspended indefinitely because of the spate of bloody crises which have continually hit the state since 2012. Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Dr. Abdullahi Modibbo, announced the decision to suspend the planned election in Lafia, yesterday. He told newsmen at a press conference that the decision became necessary because killings in the state have refused to die down. Adding that: “There is every tendency that the crises in the state will degenerate to other areas in the state during elections.” Modibo who called on all warring parties to sheath their swords in the interest of peace said, a new date has not been fixed. "Such a decision can only be made only after the state achieves peace."
