NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission is on track to enter orbit around the Red Planet at roughly 10pm, EDT, on Sunday, September 21. The spacecraft, which was launched last November, carries two sensors that were built with support from the SESDA team: the Magnetometer, which will measure magnetic fields and the solar wind; and the Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer, which will measure the composition of the Martian atmosphere at various depths. While orbiting Mars over the next year, MAVEN will help scientists get a better understanding of how the Martian atmosphere and climate developed. nasa.gov/mission_pages/maven/overview/index.html#.VAh04mM0e8E
